Japanese style Shotokan Karate is a scientific dynamic martial art that has been developed and perfected over many years. The participant will be exposed to traditional martial arts, which includes the various aspects of spiritual, physical, mental and emotional growth. The ultimate aim of our training is not to build tournament champions but rather develop individuals of strong character by utilizing a combination of hard blocks, kicks, strikes, and punches in a formal pattern of movements. This program embraces traditions of Funakoshi Shotokan Karate in association with the YMCA's mission of healthy spirit, mind, and body.
